The Escondido Union School District’s Mission Middle school was congested with older relocatable classroom buildings with little space for new classrooms. A plan evolved to move or demolish about 2 dozen relocatable buildings (many used for storage), and reconfigure the site’s running track and play field to make room for a two-story modular building with 21 classrooms and 4 labs to be factory built and assembled on site. The finished building by American Modular, sits on a concrete foundation and completed for a significantly lower cost that conventional construction and on an accelerated schedule. Once the old relocatable buildings were removed, space was freed up to expand much needed parking areas provided with new solar arrays and EV charging. The change to the visual appeal of the campus was transformative which was immediately reflected in the students and staff.
