Mar Vista High School, like other high schools in the Sweetwater High School District, was long overdue for a stadium upgrade. Working with the sports facility experts at D.A. Hogan, a new 9-lane track and sports field was designed to replace the existing facilities that were more than three feet higher on one side than the other. The entire site was re-graded and provided with new bleachers on both the home and visitor’s sides, plus an up-to-date press box sports lighting, security fencing, and a new food service and toilet room concession building and sports equipment storage building. The new structures were designed with a flourish to avoid a generic utilitarian appearance and instead bring a little festive energy to the site and show off the school colors. More importantly, the design team had a mandate from the district to replace each of the old utilities that were going to be under any new finished surfaces with new wet and dry utilities.
